Jason Segel's penis probably would not sell a lot of tickets all by itself.

Not that there's anything wrong with it, but most of us don't think of the co-star of "Freaks and Geeks," "Knocked Up" and "How I Met Your Mother" in .

So, for example, Apatow regular Paul Rudd (who appears in this movie as a brain-fried hotel surf coach named Chuck) is friends with Rob Thomas, who is the creator of TV's terrific (now-canceled) "Veronica Mars," which starred Kristen Bell in the title role.

Here Bell plays the eponymous Sarah Marshall, star of a ludicrous forensic detective show called "Crime Scene" opposite William Baldwin, whose stock in trade is making tastelessly absurd tough-guy wisecracks about hideously sickening crimes (see any episode of the "CSI" or "Law and Order" franchises).

In the same vein as Superbad and 40 Year Old Virgin this movie tackles small topics that make you laugh. Written and starring by Jason Segel (How I Met Your Mother), the story follows Peter (Segel) a musician that records scores for television.

Peter takes a vacation to Hawaii after a devastatingly humorous breakup with his TV actress girlfriend, Sarah Marshall (Kristen Bell).

It’s the hysterically funny look at how far one man will go to forget a girl – and all the fun he finds along the way!

The laughs, especially from writer-star Jason Segel, are both heartfelt and raunchy, and the film is just unexpected enough that it keeps the viewer's attention till the end.Segel is Peter Bretter, a musician who has been dumped by the titular Ms. After a string of one-night stands, Peter decided to go on vacation to Hawaii to forget, erm, well, you know.Unfortunately for Peter—but fortunately for us the viewers—Sarah is staying at the same resort with her new flame, British Rock Star Aldous Snow (Russell Brand). The touches of producer Judd Apatow, who's famously retooled rom-coms to appeal to guys as much as women, are woven throughout the film, but Segel's script, reportedly based on many of his own experiences, is fresh and original. Forgetting Sarah Marshall features male genitalia laffs presented in unexpected and human ways (the nude breakup scene is played for giggles but also deep poignancy), and the language and sex scenes are strictly for grownups--and rightly so. I usually get bored with romantic comedies or find that they self-destruct halfway through in terms of plot and entertainment value, but Sarah Marshall does neither and is one of my favorite movies of all time.Segel's script, and his performance as Peter, show that he understands the true nature of adult relationships, which provides the refreshing difference between this film and some of Apatow's other crude creations. The script is tight and well-written, the characters are just genius (thank you Nicholas Stoller), and the actors portraying them all knock it out of the ballpark.Sarah's boyfriend (now ex-) Peter Bretter (Segel) provides the "score" for her show, consisting entirely of routine riffs, stings and ominous chords. (I hesitated to even give away that much since, in this movie, the offhand use of the term "rock opera" is hilarious all by itself, as well as being the setup for a series of escalating gags.
